SES are a local Health and Safety Consultancy providing a "one stop shop" for all environmental services, testing, sustainability and analysis requirements for Clients throughout the South East. We are looking to recruit a Trainee Sustainability/ Technical Consultant to work within the Sustainability and Technical Team 4 days per week whilst studying a relevant degree course on a day release basis. This will be a BSc Degree in Building Surveying; or Sustainability in the Built Environment or similar.

Within your first year you will experience a series of rotations around the various work areas within SES to support further your understanding. The following is an overview of the work areas and duties you will be exposed to:


Experience a wide range of activities relating to the Environmental Team.  These include site based support for ground investigations including site supervision, sample logging and sampling of soils and groundwater as well as gas, dust and air monitoring.  In the office you will be exposed to data collection and review and interpretation of test results to assist in the production of reports.


Within the Sustainability Team you will assist in the preparation of energy and sustainability statements, help with calculations to ensure that new buildings meet their energy efficiency targets  and issue Energy Performance Certificates for dwelling handovers. You will assist in the surveying, measurement and calculations for energy efficiency in non-domestic buildings. You will assist our qualified Assessors with sustainability assessments for all types of buildings covering energy, materials, pollution, management, health & well being , drainage, waste, transport, water usage and ecology.


Within the Technical Team you will be helping to carry out sound and air tightness testing to ensure that new homes meet the required standards. You will develop skills in envelope calculations and achieve an understanding of UKAS requirements. You will join other team members in carrying out thermal imaging and PAT Testing.

Health & Safety

Experience time with the Health & Safety Team covering all aspects of safety on construction sites.  This includes a review of all aspects of site construction activities and preparation of accident reports.


You will develop an understanding of the role of administration across the various work areas, together with that of the Business Development Team in securing new business for future growth.

Successful Candidates

As a successful candidate you will have achieved/ be predicted 120 UCAS points or equivalent in Maths and at least 1 Science.
